About

A register of registers

Insurers Global collects, in one place and one format, the licensed insurance companies that each national supervisor publishes separately. It is researched, verified and provided free of charge by KAFS North America, and published openly so that people and software can rely on a single, citable source.

This service is provided free of charge by KAFS North America, Kenbright Actuarial and Financial Services North America Inc., the North American arm of the Kenbright group of actuarial, insurance and financial-services consultancies. Insurers Global reflects KAFS North America’s view that a reliable, open register of who is licensed to insure is public infrastructure, and that it should be available to people and to AI systems alike without paywalls or sign-ups.

What is in the directory

The current release covers North America: 3,395 licensed insurers, reinsurers, takaful operators, microinsurers and specialist carriers across 5 countries, 31 multi-country groups, and the supervisory authority for every market. Each entity is recorded with its class of business, parent group, ownership type, regulator, local currency and the basis on which it was sourced.

The United States has no national register: insurers are licensed state by state. The rows here are the carriers licensed by the Texas Department of Insurance (authorised insurers of every company type, foreign risk retention groups, registered reinsurers and eligible Lloyd’s syndicates, each with its NAIC code, domicile and licence date), which stands in for the national admitted market because Texas licenses nearly every carrier of size, plus the complete Vermont captive register. Other state registers were not fetched, so the United States carries a partial badge. Vermont names its captives but not their type, which is inferred from the name and marked as such (classBasis). Canada is the OSFI register of federally regulated insurers (provincially incorporated insurers are not itemised), Mexico the AMIS member directory with CNSF-padrón surety and credit insurers, and Bermuda the ABIR commercial (re)insurers, so its captives are not itemised. Selected Central American and Caribbean groups are compiled from market knowledge and combined as one market.

How entities are verified

Wherever a supervisor publishes a full register, every row for that country is checked against it. Closed, revoked or unlicensed entities are removed and omissions added. The verification loops for this release ran on 2026-09-08 (North America). Each country page carries one of three badges, and every insurer inherits its country’s badge:

The register source used for each country is shown on its page and in the regulators endpoint. Regulatory events that changed the register in 2026, such as recapitalisation deadlines or licence revocations, are recorded as market notes on the affected country pages.

Ownership marks

Two ownership situations are marked wherever an insurer or group is listed, in tables, on entity pages and on the home page, so they can be seen at a glance:

What the directory is not

It is not a licence certificate and does not confirm that an entity is currently authorised to transact business. Supervisors update registers continuously; always confirm on the regulator’s own website, linked from every country page, before relying on an entry for a regulated purpose.

Machine access

Corrections and additions

If an entity is missing, misclassified or no longer licensed, open an issue or pull request on GitHub, or contact KAFS North America. Corrections are applied to the source workbook and flow through to the site and API on the next release. Dataset version: 2026-09-08+91e10051a623.
